Facing Your Giants

The one thing we can count on in life in, is that it throws you GIANT curve balls and we have to manage them the best we can.

But beyond the curve balls, there’s daily life. Sometime it feels like obstacles are part of each day. I’ve referred to them as “blockers” in the past but today, I’m calling them GIANTS.

The Four Step Way to Overcome Your Giants

After listening to church service this past Sunday, I was inspired to write an article based on the teaching at my church. Want to hear the sermon?

The question for you today is, do you recognize that you have obstacles in your way? If you recognize the, how do you face and fight them? Is it on your own?

The story of David and Goliath is a well-known but have you thought about what it really took for David to overcome Goliath? David was just a young shepherd boy and Goliath was both giant and an experienced fighter.

Let’s look at the steps David took and how that translates to you and me. Read 1 Samuel 17

When you want to make a change in your life such as eating differently, exercising more and thinking with a positive mind, what do you need to do first?

  1. Figure out what your obstacle is (your blocker, your giant). You can’t fight something when you don’t know what it is or can’t see it in your life.

Ask yourself, what is creating the pattern in your life? Do you recognize the habit that is keeping you from victory? From losing weight? From being more confident? From eating better?

Is it that you only see issues in others but you don’t see the issues in you? Are you relying on the fact that your past was hurtful? Or something else that has caused you to be where you are today?

What is the common denominator of your problem and what are you allowing to penetrate your life today that could be changed?

We all have a past, me included and we don’t need to ignore our past but we do need to recognize what is standing in our way in order to deal with it and move past it.

Figure out what your obstacle is.

  1. Face it – Once you figure out what your obstacle is, you must face it. Obstacles do not remove themselves from our lives. They must be removed. You must FIGHT to overcome the giant and you cannot win a battle that you don’t fight.

How do you fight it? It may mean counseling, taking a course or program online, reading books and applying what you learned. Do not limit yourself by thinking that you can pray and do nothing – God calls us to action.

Your circumstances will not change unless you do something about it.

You can harvest your strength from God, but you must take action and face the obstacle.

  1. “Faith –in” God over fear of the problem. In 1 Samuel 17 David focused on his Faith in God and not fear of the giant. 1 Samuel 17: 37 reads “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine. Saul said “go and the Lord be with you.” He was not relying on his own abilities, but his abilities with God’s help. He had faith-in God not fear of the giant.

Do you fear your obstacle more than you have faith? To have victory, you must focus on Faith in God and not focus on what could go wrong.

David was not alone in fighting his battle and neither are you.

We all have battles, every single person, and it’s easy to grow weary when we are fighting them alone or focusing on the problem.

Be confident in God promises to bring your through it. Romans 8:28 says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

You have the power to shift your thoughts and choose to have faith in God and not fear.

  1. Focus on the solution – not the situation. We have a tendency to want to live in the situation – thinking that life is not fair or that no one understands what you’ve been through.

Instead of leaving our attention on the situation, choosing to shift it to the solution will help you move forward. This isn’t minimizing your situation but if you want to overcome it, the solution is where you want to focus your energy.

The longer you live in the situation the longer your situation will be. Until you make the switch you will remain in the situation.

Don’t miss out on the good things that God has for you. Let’s find a solution and move forward.

Begin to seek what obstacles are in your life so you can face them, focus on faith in God and search for a solution. You’ve got to choose to fight it. God cannot do it with without you making a choice to focus on faith in Him.

Nothing that we face are we facing alone!

May you find victory today!
